If you’re thinking about taking on the pure chaos of Cursed Mode in Black Ops 7 Zombies, brace yourself. This isn’t something you just tick from a menu – you’ve gotta earn it, and it’s rough. We’re talking no HUD at all, sprinting zombies from the first round, and nasty special enemies that don’t give you a second to breathe.
Unlocking it means beating a hidden easter egg on the ‘Asylum of the Damned’ map, and trust me, most players never even get close. The first hurdle? Make it all the way to Round 20 without anyone going down, no revives in any form. It’s a clean run or nothing, so keep things slow, hold down a safe spot, and talk to each other constantly. When Round 20 kicks in, a warped laugh echoes through the place – that’s when you know step one is done. If you’ve ever checked out CoD BO7 Boosting, you’ll know how crucial teamwork is for this.
Step two cranks the tension higher – you’ve got to find three ‘Whispering Skulls’ hidden around the map. They’re placed to make you miss them unless you know where to look. The first one’s hiding under a desk in the Warden’s Office. The second is perched right up on a light fixture in the Cafeteria, so keep your eyes up. The last sits inside a busted prison transport truck in the Courtyard. You have to whack them with a melee hit, and you’ve got to do it in the exact order listed, or you’re starting over. Smash the final skull and the whole map drops into pitch darkness for half a minute while a pack of Crimson Hounds rushes you. Survive that wave, or you won’t be moving on.
Once the dogs are done, a creepy floating head – kind of like some old Norse oracle statue – appears in the central chamber. This is the Asylum’s Oracle, and it spits out a riddle. That riddle points toward one of the four elemental perk machines on the map. It could be fire, wind, shock, or ice – whichever matches the clue.
Find the right machine, check its side for a brand new glowing rune, and hit the interact button. Nail the answer and you’ll hear the Oracle scream, then a swirling portal bursts open right in front of you. Everyone in your squad has to dive through, no stragglers allowed, or the whole thing fails.
The moment you’re through, the game wraps up. You’ll get a unique calling card as a reward, and more importantly, the Zombies menu now shows a toggle for Cursed Mode when you select ‘Asylum of the Damned’. Play this mode and it’s pure punishment – but if you push to Round 30, you unlock an exclusive camo for your weapons that’s worth bragging about.
