Is Cowboys' season at a tipping point heading into Packers game?
Five years ago, the Dallas Cowboys entered early October in a mini tailspin.
The team was 1-2 under new head coach Mike McCarthy, opponents were scoring a shocking 32.3 points per game, and significant grumbling was beginning to set in over the defensive scheme of coordinator Mike Nolan. Suddenly, Dallas was heading into a precarious Week 4 home matchup with the Cleveland Browns, a franchise that went 6-10 the previous season, leading to the firings of head coach Freddie Kitchens and general manager John Dorsey. Under new head coach Kevin Stefanski, the Browns were 2-1 and feeling very good about themselves. Conversely, McCarthy had barely exited September and he was already trying to stave off the feeling of something being undeniably broken on defense.
Dallas lost to the Browns, 49-38. Afterward, the dam began to break, with defensive cornerstone and leader DeMarcus Lawrence letting loose on his unit.

I've been a Cowboys fan since I was six years old. I don't have a lot of hope for this season, and it's because of their poor defensive play. They could wind up 9-8 or 10-7 if they do really, really well, but I don't see them going anywhere in the playoffs.

Last night, the Philadelphia Eagles got smashed by the New York Giants. The defending Super Bowl champs have been out-gained in yards every game this year, and there seem to be cracks inside the locker room. The NFC chapionship game from last year featured NFC East teams, the Eagles and Commanders. Both those teams have taken steps back this year, and the New York Giants have been playing with spark and energy since Jaxson Dart has been their starting quarterback. The Dallas Cowboys missed the playoffs last year with a 7 - 10 record, but they had won 12 games each of the three seasons before that. People are thinking that last year was a bad fluke, partly because of Dak's injury, and the "real" Cowboys are the 12-win Cowboys playing right now. I don't want to jinx anything, but Philly is playing poorly, and tge NFC East is up for grabs again. There has not been a repeat division winner in about 20 years ...
