The World

I once believed the CIA was following me
I once believed
That I was the center of the world
But now I look at things
          In a far different way
And I see that you're the same as me

Would they really do that?
What what they really try?
To make you see that you are
The center of the world as well, as well

I know it sounds just a little bit crazy
You are a drifter just like me
Are there cameras in your stereo box?
Is there a transistor in your mouth?

Let go of your inhibitions
Try to see it like me
Open your mind for a second
You will be caught up in the world
In the world, in the world

Hello Guys!!!

It was a late night on February 22, 2002 when me, my sister, & her boyfriend stopped at a Del Taco on our way home.  My sister had recently recorded a few demo songs in a Hollywood studio, and her boyfriend had been a drummer in a few different popular rock bands.  As we waited for our food, my sister suggested we write a song.  We flipped over a paper place mat and started writing lyrics.  We took turns with each line.  It was fun!  The result was Spit Face Racer!  I took the lyrics home and the next day I put music to it with an acoustic guitar.  It was the first of many songs I would record, most of them cringe-worthy cover songs, but I had my share of originals.

The World, if I remember right, was the first full-on original song I wrote on my own.  It was written and recorded a day or two after Spit Face Racer.  And how do I remember the date?  February 22, 2002 (02-22-2002) has nothing but zeros and twos.  It was easy.  I bought myself a Tascam 4-track analog recorder, and I bought Data Becker digital recording software for my tower computer.  Writing and recording became my new hobby.  I bought a brick of blank cassettes and created a demo tape called Melodramatic Goldfish.  It had six or eight songs (I can't remember at the moment) and only one was a cover song.  My sister's boyfriend said he liked it.  That was a compliment because he had recorded with professionals.  Was this partly brcause he was dating my sister?  I'd like to think not.

My first demo tape was all acoustic, and it didn't take long to work on my next demo.  It was all electric.  I wrote tge songs, played bass, electric guitar, keyboards, and sang.  I didn't have a drummer, though.  I was fine with that, and I eventually bought a drum set a couple of years later.  I also bought a xylophone, cello, saxophone, and harmonica.  I learned to play them all, and though I wasn't excellent at any individual instrument, I didn't care and I was going through a personal renaissance.  I moved to Hollywood and lived with a couple of musicians down the street from Hollywood High School.  That was a great time of my life!  Years went by and the urge to write and record faded.  That's life, but there was a spark when I discovered AI music in January of 2025.  Two of the first songs I worked on were Spit Face Racer and The World.  Above, I have three versions of The World.  Acoustic and electric recordings from long ago, and an AI version from January of last year.  I hope you enjoy!

On a final note, I started using a Sing app last March which rode off the Suno program.  I paid for unlimited songs for a full year.  When the year was up last week, I was sad to see it wasn't available in the App Store.  I'll have to start over from scratch.  I posted nearly 200 songs since I started my AI hobby, though.  And?  On average, I had three versions to each song.  Some of them were pure clunkers where the lyrics were wrong, the AI hallucinated, or the song cut off unexpectedly.  In the early months, there was a strict 4-minute limit, but that eventually changed.  I was in the middle of my Rush project when my subscription ran out.  I turned my attention to a "Clunkers & Alt Versions" page.  I'll be working on that in the coming weeks if all goes as planned ...
