Aion 2 is officially happening this September, and it’s shaping up to be a massive release for MMORPG fans. NC America took the stage at Summer Game Fest 2026 to drop the official announcement: Aion 2 will launch globally in September 2026. This isn't a mobile-first project or a limited regional rollout; it’s a full-fledged, global PC launch coming straight to Steam and NC’s proprietary Purple platform, featuring dedicated servers across North America, South America, Europe, and Asia right out of the gate.
For context, the original Aion is an 18-year-old classic at this point. If you never played it, don't worry. The developers made it clear that Aion 2 is a completely standalone narrative set in the world of Atreia. You don’t need any prior knowledge of the lore to jump right in. What you will need, however, is a decent PC setup. The entire game is built from the ground up on Unreal Engine 5, and the scale is frankly ridiculous—the new world map is roughly 36 times larger than the original game's map. To make it accessible for global communities, the launch will support 10 languages, including English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, and Korean.
Gameplay-wise, NC is bringing back the franchise’s absolute best feature: the freedom of flight. But instead of just using wings to glide from point A to point B or cross gaps, flight has been evolved into a core vertical combat system. You’ll be fighting in full three-dimensional space, making positioning and aerial maneuvering a massive part of the experience. The combat itself is a hybrid system that blends traditional tab-targeting mechanics with fast-paced precision, timing, and positioning. It feels like a smart middle ground designed to keep the tactical depth of old-school MMOs while satisfying modern expectations for action.
At launch, players will have eight starting classes to choose from, covering all the classic archetypes: Gladiator, Templar, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Elementalist, Cleric, and Chanter. Whether you lean toward frontline tanking, stealthy DPS, high-damage spellcasting, or vital group support, the classic lineup is well-represented.
There's plenty to do regardless of your playstyle. On the PvE side, the game scales from solo instances and standard 4-player dungeons up to complex 8-player raids. If you're a PvP enthusiast, Aion 2 is sticking to its roots with extensive open-world faction PvP, where the massive scale of the UE5 map and the vertical flight mechanics should make for some chaotic, large-scale battlegrounds.
If you’re planning to jump in on day one, pre-registrations are already open. You can sign up for updates by subscribing to the newsletter on the official Aion 2 brand website. Doing so locks in some decent launch rewards to get you started, including a Pet Pagati mount and your choice of one additional companion item from a selection of four: the Konuti Worker, Papis, Black Smoke Murt, or Silver Blade Rotan.
With a definitive September window and global servers ready to go, the countdown to Atreia is officially on. Keep an eye on Steam and Purple for exact launch dates and system requirements as the summer progresses.
